A closer view of the 47 staples. Under this cut, surgeons had to drill into my skull (called a craniotomy). Two 2-inch sections of skull (that both overlapped a little) were removed so that Dr. Kelly could have access to my brain. The skull pieces were later replaced and will slowly grow together again during my 3 months of recovery. [NOTE: This is a big reason why such long recovery time is required.]
